"BIOGRAPHY: Adam de Everingham, in the 31st of Edward I [1303], was in the wars of
Scotland, and in three years afterwards was created a knight of the Bath with Prince Edward
and other persons of rank when he attended the prince upon the expedition then made into
Scotland. After which, in the 2nd of Edward II [1309], he was summoned to parliament as a
Baron, and from that period to the 9th inclusive. During those years he was constantly
engaged in the wars of Scotland , but afterwards taking up arms with Thomas, Earl of
Lancaster, he was made prisoner at the battle of Boroughbridge, and forced to pay a fine of
400 marks to the king to save his life. In the 11th Edward III [1338], his lordship entailed his
manor of Lexinton, in Notts, where he principally resided, upon Adam, his eldest son, and
so successively in default of male issue upon Robert, Edmund, Alexander, and Nicholas,
his younger son. This manor was holden of the archbishop of York, by the service of
performing the office of butler in the prelate's house upon the day of his inthronization. Lord

Adam DE EVERINGHAM
"BIOGRAPHY: Adam received his mother's lands 6 years after her death. 1258-expedition
into Wales with king's men. Later sided with de Montfort and was at Battle of Evesham. He
owned 1/2 of the barony of Schelford and possessed the manors of Everingham and
Farburne, Yorkshire & Westbury, Lincolnshire.
BIOGRAPHY: Adam de Everingham, at the decease of his mother in the 36th Henry III [1252],
had livery of her lands upon doing homage and giving security for the payment of ?50 for his
relief. In the 42nd Henry III [1258], this feudal lord was in the expedition made then into
Wales, but he afterwards took up arms with Montfort, Earl of Leicester, and the other
discontented barons of that period, and was at the battle of Evesham. He d. 9th Edward I
[1280-81], being at that time seised of a moiety of they barony of Schelford, in
Nottinghamshire, into which moiety twelve knights' fees and a half in several counties
appertained, whereof ten were for the Bailiwick of Sherwood. He likewise possessed the
manors of Everingham and Farburne, co. York, and Westbury, co. Lincoln. He was s. by his

"BIOGRAPHY: In the 14th Henry III, Robert de Everingham m. Isabel, dau. of John de Birkin,
and sister and sole heiress of Thomas de Birkin, (feudal lords who flourished to nearly the
middle of the 13th century) and paid a fine of 200 marks to the crown for livery of her lands,
and likewise for livery of the Bailiwick of the forest of Sherwood, that being also part of her
inheritance. This Robert held then five knights' fees and a half in the county of Nottingham,
and one in Lexinton. He had issue, Adam, his successor; John, to whom his mother gave
the manor of Birkin; and Robert, a clergyman, rector of the church of Birkin. He d. in the 30th
